The facts about refoaming and obtaining original performance.
Refoaming requires centering the voice coil in the magnetic gap. This is critical since the clearance is about half the thickness of a credit card. The two usual methods are:
1. Move the cone around until you don't hear the coil scrape a metal pole. This can leave such little clearance on one side that the slightest shift during usage causes the coil to scrape, possibly damaging the coil.
2. Cut out the center dome in the front of the cone and insert shims. This destroys the dome requiring replacement, and exact replacement domes for older speakers are almost never available. Since the dome is a critical part of the original sound, a generic replacement affects both frequency response and distortion. Also, the spider (rear suspension) will have over the years sagged and shifted downward, and out of original alignment to some extent. Then when the shims are removed it pulls the coil off center, again causing distortion and affecting the sound.
OUR METHOD OF REFOAMING :
We avoid the above problems with our exclusive electronic alignment process, which does not disturb the original dome and centers the coil perfectly by allowing for spider shift. We don't just put "new tires on your car", we align and balance them. You are guaranteed of both original performance and long-term reliability.
OTHER BENEFITS FROM WATKINS:
We use polyether foam which lasts over twice as long as other foams in current use. The adhesive used is Airflex. It cures clear and remains flexible, the same as the adhesive used in original construction. Turnaround time is three working days, and all repair is overseen by Bill Watkins. Guarantee is five years.

Packing and Shipping Instructions:
Remove the speaker from the cabinet by removing the screws
that hold the speakers in. Before disconnecting the two wires
(four for dual-drive) be sure to tag the wires and speaker
terminals or draw a "map" to insure correct reinstallation.
Bolt or tie-strap the speakers together, face-to-face.
Use packing all around such that speakers do not touch
the shipping box. Several layers of bubble pack works well.
